As long as I have some momentum, might as well keep on posting in the same vein. Here is another hymn I composed a few years back:
(Note: Astute readers may have noticed, as I just did, that the meter “22.214.171.124.8.8” is totally wrong; it should be “126.96.36.199.11.10”. I’ll fix that.)
The lyrics, as text, are below. It is a paraphrase of Psalm 116. I am thinking that Verse 4 would be used only for memorial services.
1. I love you, Lord, who hears my supplication,
You answered me when difficulties came.
In my distress and fearful tribulation,
I turned to You and called upon Your Name.
All-gracious Lord, the bringer of salvation,
You saved my soul and took away my shame.
2. My soul finds rest in You who are all-giving,
You make me stand and wipe away my tears.
You fill my mouth with anthems of thanksgiving,
For You have stilled and quieted my fears.
I long to walk with You among the living,
To see Your face throughout the endless years.
3. Lord, You deserve all praise and adoration,
Your grace abounds; how shall I now repay?
I shall rejoice among Your congregation,
And laud the goodness of Your righteous ways.
I will lift up a song of celebration,
Fulfill my vows, and serve You all my days.
4. O gracious Lord, how blessed are Your people!
Their passing on is precious in Your sight.
They fly to You on mighty wings of eagles,
Their youth restored, to walk with You in white,
To gain the kingdom of the just and peaceful,
Never again to fear the dark of night.
I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy.
Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;
I suffered distress and anguish.
Then I called on the name of the Lord: “O Lord, I pray, deliver my soul!”
Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful.
The Lord preserves the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me.
Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.
For you have delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling;
I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.
I believed, even when I spoke: “I am greatly afflicted”;
I said in my alarm, “All mankind are liars.”
What shall I render to the Lord for all his benefits to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord,
I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
O Lord, I am your servant;
I am your servant, the son of your maidservant.
You have loosed my bonds.
I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord.
I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people,
in the courts of the house of the Lord, in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!
